A few tips for safe stretching:
Whether a stretch is good or bad will depend on what is appropriate for the specific requirement of the person stretching. Caution is required if an area has been injured, joints are unstable or stiff or if you have been inactive for a long period of time.
Work with warm muscles as they lengthen more easily & with less discomfort. Stretching should never be painful. The focus should be on bringing the muscle to a point of slight tension. Remember to continue your breathing throughout the stretch.  For effective results, hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds.
Consistency is the key – it takes time to really get the full benefits of regular stretching, but it will be worth it to ensure independence & mobility as we age.
